River City News, looking to expand, needed an updated site that works well on all devices.

The founders of this local news site wanted to elevate their publication with a more modern, mobile friendly layout. They were big fans of Huffpo's big, bold design style, so I incorporated elements of that design into the updated look. I simplified the color scheme, streamlined the navigation, and added a custom search bar.

Ad revenue was really critical as well, so I worked in as many ad spaces as possible while still keeping the primary focus on the news. Based on eye tracking data, I was able to determine that the right rail commonly used on news and lifestyle sites for ad space is completely ignored. Instead, I decided to intersperse them with the news stories in a way that is unobtrusive but still scannable.
