Cubimals
Overview
A fast paced bullet hell featuring cute cube animals and a cranky dungeon master. Your goal is to beat the DM's one shot campaign, consisting of 3 maps. The DM will spawn enemies for you to fight. You will also collect dice during and after completing a map. You can roll your dice anytime to give your player powerups. WATCH OUT! If you roll to many power up dice you will anger the DM making the enemies much more powerful. Good luck and enjoy CUBIMALS.

Process In order to grow my 3D skills and learn more about the game industry, I joined a 48 hour game jam with other Blizzard employees. We didn’t have an artist available for most of the game jam, so I jumped in and learned how to model on the fly. Created these cute little cube animal models in blender from my own sketches. An artist joined us on the last day and provided the shaders and colors based on my designs.
Process
From quick, basic sketches
In the interest of speed, I quickly drafted some very simple sketches of our cubimals and determining scale and ratios so I could accurately create them in Blender.
To cute 3D models
Nicknamed “mallows” for their resemblance to soft, rectangular marshmallows, they were quick to create in Blender, even for a beginner like myself at the time. It was a wonderful learning experience and got me completely hooked on 3D art and design.
