V0.0

The first version was simply a basic style guide I made as I found time when I was the sole designer at DMG. I created it in Confluence and Built a rudimentary version in Adobe XD.

V1.0

The first version of our design system was home grown, created from scratch by UX Engineer Arianne Archer from the components I had designed over the previous year as the sole designer at DMG.

V2.0

Just as we were getting close to wrapping up documentation for V1, leadership decided they wanted a quicker solution that would require less custom code from the developers. They requested we find an existing framework that we could customize. After a quick round of research including competitive analysis and in-depth reviews of the top managed marketplaces' design languages, we settled on Material-UI as our foundation, with a color scheme that was loosely based on the ANT Design color system and the brand colors provided by the marketing team.Of course, no boilerplate design system is ever complete, so we extended it with some custom components as well as some dashboard templates from Creative Tim.

If you would like to see a sample of the DMG Design System, please reach out using the Contact form or take a look at Guided Invoicing for an example of one of the first applications to be built using the system.
